How to Set Up Your First Chatbot
Create your first AI-powered chatbot in just a few minutes. This guide walks you through the entire process from start to finish.
Prerequisites
- A ChatFlow account (any plan)
- Your website URL
- Basic information about your business
Steps
Step 1: Navigate to Chatbots
From your dashboard, click Chatbots in the left sidebar to open the chatbots management page.
Step 2: Click Create Chatbot
Click the Create Chatbot button in the top right corner, or if this is your first chatbot, click the Create your first chatbot button in the center of the page.
Step 3: Fill in Chatbot Details
In the create dialog, enter the following information:

Step 4: Create the Chatbot
Click the Create Chatbot button at the bottom of the form.
You'll be redirected to your new chatbot's configuration page with multiple tabs:
- Design - Customize appearance
- FAQs - Add questions and answers
- Documents - Upload training files (Growth+)
- Training - Index website content (Enterprise)
- Connectors - Connect external services (Enterprise)
- Integrations - Third-party integrations (Growth+)
- Playground - Test your chatbot
- Publish - Get embed code
Step 5: Quick Setup (Optional)
For the fastest setup, your chatbot is ready to use immediately with default settings. However, we recommend at minimum:
- Add FAQs - Go to the FAQs tab and add common questions
- Customize Design - Go to Design and add your brand colors
- Test - Go to Playground and test a few conversations
Verify It's Working
- Go to the Playground tab
- Type a greeting like "Hello"
- You should see a response from your chatbot
Troubleshooting
Chatbot Not Responding
- Ensure you have at least one FAQ added or documents uploaded
- Check the Playground tab - the chatbot needs initial training data
Can't Create Chatbot
- Verify your account is active
- Check if you've reached your plan's chatbot limit
- Essential: 1 chatbot, Growth: 3 chatbots, Enterprise: Unlimited
- Website URL must include
https:// or http://
- Chatbot name is required
- Website name is required
